Teacher Personality Competence and Christian Spiritual Formation of Elementary School Students: A Case Study at UPTD SD Negeri 122394 Pematangsiantar
Main Article Content
Abstract
Education is not limited to the transfer of knowledge but also functions as a transformative process for shaping values, attitudes, and character in students. Within Christian education, teacher personality competence plays a crucial role as teachers are called not only to instruct but also to embody faith-based values that inspire students’ moral and spiritual development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between teacher personality competence and Christian spiritual formation among elementary school students at UPTD SD Negeri 122394 Pematangsiantar. The research employed a qualitative case study design, allowing in-depth exploration of how teacher personality competence is integrated into the school’s Christian education practices. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, and focus group discussions with students. Triangulation of data sources, including school administrators, was used to ensure validity, and thematic analysis was applied to identify recurring patterns and themes. Findings reveal that teacher personality competence significantly contributes to spiritual formation in three interrelated dimensions: integrity and consistency, emotional maturity and empathy, and integration of faith in pedagogical practices. Teachers’ integrity provided students with authentic models of honesty and responsibility; emotional maturity and empathy created a safe environment for holistic growth; and the integration of prayer, biblical principles, and reflective practices reinforced habits of worship and service. The study concludes that teacher personality competence acts as both pedagogy and ministry, serving as a catalyst for Christian character formation. Strengthening this competence is therefore essential to ensure that teachers not only teach but also embody the values they seek to cultivate in students.
