Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in the subject of Christian Religious Education and Character Education, which primarily stemmed from students’ limited engagement in seeking additional learning resources. Teachers were often regarded as the sole source of knowledge, resulting in learning processes that were neither effective nor efficient. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the teaching and learning process as well as students’ learning outcomes in Christian Religious Education and Character Education. The study was conducted at SDN No. 075063 Tetehosi during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The subjects of the study were 22 students from class V-B. The research instruments included: (1) teacher and student observation sheets, (2) documentation and photographs, and (3) learning outcome tests. Based on the findings, the average result from the teacher observation sheets in Cycle I was 63.33%, which increased to 90.83% in Cycle II. Similarly, the average result from the student observation sheets in Cycle I was 50.96%, which improved to 83.17% in Cycle II. Through the evaluation of learning outcomes, the average student score in Cycle I was 69.80, with a mastery percentage of 54.55%. In Cycle II, the average score increased to 85.25, with a mastery percentage of 100%, indicating an excellent level of achievement. The target indicator set at 75% was successfully met. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model significantly improved the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in the subject of Christian Religious Education and Character Education at SDN No. 075063 Tetehosi in the 2024/2025 academic year.
