Transforming the Competence of Christian Religious Education Teachers in the Society 5.0 Era: Preparing Students of SDN 173366 Parmonangan to Become Agents of Change
Main Article Content
Abstract
The emergence of Society 5.0, a paradigm that emphasizes the integration of advanced technology with human-centered values, necessitates a profound transformation of Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers’ competence, particularly at the elementary level. This study explores the transformation of CRE teachers at SDN 173366 Parmonangan, a school located in a geographically challenging area with limited technological infrastructure, yet committed to nurturing students’ spiritual and moral character. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Findings reveal that CRE teachers at Parmonangan conceptualize Society 5.0 not solely as a digital revolution but as a call to harmonize technological literacy with ethical and spiritual discernment. Teachers adopt innovative strategies such as multimedia storytelling, project-based learning, contextualized biblical instruction, and the use of accessible digital tools to enhance engagement and relevance. Despite infrastructural and training limitations, educators integrate Christian values-including love, honesty, humility, and responsibility-into digitally mediated lessons, enabling students to embody these virtues in everyday life. The transformation has fostered critical thinking, empathy, and leadership skills, with students increasingly participating in prayer, service projects, and collaborative initiatives. However, sustainability remains constrained by inadequate resources, limited professional development opportunities, and insufficient institutional support. The study concludes that the transformation of CRE teacher competence is both urgent and strategic, serving not only to enhance instructional quality but also to prepare students as agents of change who are intellectually capable, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible in navigating the complexities of Society 5.0.
