The Importance of Social Relationships Between Christian Religious Education Teachers and Students: Implementation of Social Competence at SD Alam Bukit Hijau
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the significance of social relationships between Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers and students through the implementation of social competence at Bukit Hijau Nature School. The research investigates how teachers' social competence influences the quality of teacher-student relationships and its impact on students' spiritual and character development. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five CRE teachers, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that social competence significantly enhances teacher-student relationships through effective communication, empathy, and collaborative learning environments. Teachers who demonstrate strong social competence create meaningful connections that facilitate students' spiritual growth, moral reasoning, and positive behavioral changes. Three key dimensions emerged: interpersonal communication skills, emotional intelligence in pedagogical practice, and the cultivation of inclusive learning communities. The study concludes that social competence is fundamental to effective Christian religious education, as it bridges theological instruction with lived experiences, thereby fostering holistic student development. Implications for teacher training programs and educational policy in faith-based schools are discussed.
