Faith as a Foundation of the Spiritual Competence of Christian Religious Education Teachers at SD Negeri 078427 Memong
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the role of faith as the foundational element in developing spiritual competence among Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers at SD Negeri 078427 Memong. Spiritual competence encompasses the ability of teachers to integrate religious values, ethical principles, and faith-based practices into their pedagogical approaches. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving four CRE teachers and the school principal. The findings reveal that faith serves as the primary motivator for teachers' commitment to spiritual development, influences their teaching methodologies, and shapes their relationships with students. Three main themes emerged: (1) personal faith as a catalyst for professional dedication, (2) faith-based pedagogical approaches that foster authentic spiritual engagement, and (3) faith as a mediator in navigating challenges within secular educational environments. The study concludes that faith is not merely a prerequisite but an essential dynamic force that continuously shapes and enhances the spiritual competence of CRE teachers. These findings have significant implications for teacher education programs, emphasizing the need to nurture both theological knowledge and personal faith development in preparing competent religious educators.
